Ocean Eddie’s opened over 55 years ago on the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier in the sleepy resort town of Virginia Beach. Originally established as a hotdog stand, Ocean Eddie’s has grown to become one of the most popular seafood restaurants and nightspots at the oceanfront. Two brothers, Sam and Eddie Lachman, started it all at this location in 1949. Legend has it that Eddie used to venture into the ocean throughout the year. This is how the name Ocean Eddie’s originated.

In the 70’s and 80’s, Eddie’s son, Elkan Lachman, took on responsibilities for running the restaurant, and brought his children Patty and Eddie Jr. in to help him. In the 90’s, Sam passed away and his daughter Betty assumed ownership of the business. Today, you might find Betty chatting with our customers, preparing specialty desserts, or working behind the grill. Likewise, you might see Betty’s husband, Biggie, working hard to maintain the efficient operation of this famous local landmark. Since the ownership change, the restaurant has many new additions, such as the deck and an oyster bar. It has grown from a modest 24 seats in the beginning, to the 168 seats in place today.

Did you know that an “eddy” in the ocean is actually a churning motion that brings up great amounts of nutrients from the ocean depths, and provides a bounty of food for marine life? It is without question the best restaurant that the fish can visit! Likewise, our customers will surely find a plentiful array of seafood to choose here also. We take great pride in serving the freshest seafood available. We are also proud of our wide assortment of tropical drinks, delicious burgers and sandwiches, and the fact we serve only Certified Angus Beef.

Please notice our menu cover. It was designed by our own Virginia Beach artist Rick Romano, who once bartended here. You will see many of his prints on the walls of the restaurant. The pier and restaurant design is also printed on t-shirts and sweatshirts, which are available here and next door at the pier gift shop.
